Gestalts – Light+Dark

While reading the online version of She and I: A Fugue several years ago, Christa noted a pervading between-the-lines elegiac tone that she didn’t associate with my everyday, non-writerly personality. I agreed with her, and have attended to this strain ever since. A recent study bears on this, and also sheds light on romanticism:  “The authors hypothesized that thinking about the absence of a positive event from one’s life would improve affective states more than thinking about the presence of a positive event but that people would not predict this when making affective forecasts.” –
